"The Quality of Early Childhood, The Quality of the Nation," Consistent with the Constitution in 2017"

“Decreasing of birth rates in a country can lead for the increment of elder population. It seems Thai society is turning to an aging society. Thus, the investment in early childhood is a golden opportunity to develop the quality of the citizens and to achieve great benefits to our country”.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Suriyadeo Tripathi, Director of National Institute for Child and Family Development (NICFD), Mahidol University reveals that in the past, nearly one million of children were born every year, but now the newborn has decreased to half and trend to be four hundred thousand to five hundred thousand per year. The structure of Thai population in 2017 will face for the declining of population and the society will change in to an ageing society. According to UNICEF, the data in 1990’s shows that the number of working age population who is taking care of elder persons, is in the rate of 10:1. Then in 2010, this number decreases to 5:1 and in 2030, it is expected that the working age population will reduce to 2:1 which is a burden on working-age population. Further, it can be affected to the GDP of the country. The working population in 2030 is the current early childhood population. Therefore, the development of early childhood quality will have an impact on the quality of the country in future.

On 25th of May, 2017 at SD Avenue Hotel, Bangkok, the National Institute for Child and Family Development, Mahidol University in association with Thai Health Promotion Foundation and a network of people who are working with children, set up a conference on the topic of “The Quality of Children, The Quality of the Nation”.
